5 Beauty Tricks For Faking A Restful Night's Sleep

Late nights happen to all of us. Maybe game night lingers a little too long or you spent the night scrolling through Instagram because you couldn't sleep. Whatever the case, you know what it's like to wake up resembling an extra from The Walking Dead. You don't have to pile on the makeup to appear wide awake, though. We have a few handy beauty tips to help you fake it until your next chance for some much needed sleep.

1. Starting from the Inside Out

For a fresh face, you can't just focus on the outside. You need to begin on the inside, and enjoying a one-step, bite-sized beauty routine, like our Beauty Gummies ($17.99; shop now) is the best way to do that. These gummies boast glowing ingredients, like vitamin A and biotin, to increase skin hydration and promote a youthful appearance.**

2. Less Is More

Concealer is your best friend after a sleepless night, but don't go too wild with it. Applying too much concealer will do the opposite of what you want. It can cake itself into laugh lines and under-eyes. Use comfortable, light application brushes that will help you to apply and blend your concealer seamlessly for the best coverage.

3. Eyebrows Are Sisters, Not Twins

Well-groomed eyebrows are surprisingly one of the best and easiest ways to spruce up your look. Just a little brow attention can go a long way. Grooming your brows is essential. Obsessing over them is not. Don't waste time trying to create identical eyebrows. It's an impossible task that can turn your brow routine into a frustrating affair.

Not sure where to start? Natalie Plain, Founder of the brow experts, Billion Dollar Brows, offers her thoughts, sharing the following:

"Don't overthink your process. Everybody's eyebrow hair grows in different directions, some are gray, some are wispy. Tell your own eyebrow journey with what you have to work with. If we try to have the perfect eyebrow, we may end up taking off too much, so work with what you have – don’t overthink it."

4. Play Up Your Eyes

Take your makeup routine just a little further by playing up your eyes as well. In addition to dabbing on concealer and grooming your eyebrows, you can play up your eyes with a few fast tricks. Highlighting the inner corners of your eyes with a shimmery white pencil or shadow will instantly help your eyes look brighter. Pale gold, pink, or – if you’re feeling bold – blue can work as well. Don't forget to curl your eyelashes for a smidge of extra definition without too much flair. This small and easy routine is guaranteed to make you look bright and alert!

5. Go for the Glow

As long as you have a dedicated skincare routine full of can't-miss products, your restless evenings and long nights can be a best kept secret. Don't rely too heavily on quick-fix morning routines though. Take care of your skin on the regular by keeping your skin hydrated and moisturized.

Kirsten Thomas, Founder of natural skincare line Ayr Skin Care, offers up her two cents below.

"How well your skin looks starts before your day does. Taking care of your skin each night (read: don't go to bed with your makeup on!) will result in happier skin in the morning," she tells Lively. "Even after a long night, if you take a few extra moments before bed to simply cleanse your face with a natural cleanser … your skin will look and feel as though you got a full night’s rest in the morning. Create balance in your body by feeding it well, in addition to mindfully selecting skincare products that are designed to help maintain that healthy glow, naturally."

If you have dry skin, mix in a few drops of facial oil with your foundation for all-day moisture. For oily skin, try moisturizing before makeup application with a light hydrating gel.

More than anything, drink water. H2O is an absolute must for healthy skin. Try our refreshing Collagen Waterâ„¢, which is made with 10g of collagen and 1-3g of sugar per serving. Staying hydrated never tasted so good.

Last, but definitely not least, get your full eight hours of sleep whenever possible. Life happens, and a full night's sleep isn't always an option, but take the chance to rest whenever you can! As for those occasions where rest alludes you, we hope these tips will help you take on the next day with bright eyes and a big smile.
