TikTok Beauty Trends That Are Actually Worth Trying

For more than a year now, TikTok has been our go-to entertainment hub. We've tried (and loved) baked feta pasta and learned new life hacks on the daily. Another thing the app has blessed us with? BeautyTok.

Here, you'll learn more about makeup and hair than some learn in cosmetology school – no cap (that's TikTok lingo for "no lie"). You'll also be introduced to viral beauty trends.

But before you sprint to your bathroom to try them all, read ahead to learn which ones are actually worth trying - and which ones you can skip.

Blush placement

It's time to take those rose-colored glasses off and realize that you've probably been applying blush wrong for years. This shocking fact was brought to people's attention by TikTok user @meganlavallie.

Her hack showcased how blush can completely change the shape of your face. Applying it on your cheeks will shorten the face, while her way of applying it along the cheekbones gives you an instant facelift. Chanel Meekins, Co-Founder of Pierre Michel Beauty, calls it a "game changer" since it looks professionally done.

Slugging

Slugging, or moisture sandwich, is when you cover your face with an occlusive agent. Sounds weird, but it's actually dermatologist-approved. It's popular during the winter for extra hydration," says Dr. Anna Chacon, a board-certified dermatologist. After washing and moisturizing your face, she says to end with a pea-sized amount of petroleum jelly and cover your whole face with it and sleep. It really gives a new meaning to beauty rest.

Flawless foundation

Sick of your foundation not lasting? TikTok comes to the rescue again with this hack that promises an airbrushed face well into the night. All it takes is moisturizer, translucent powder, setting spray, primer and foundation (in that order).

TikTok users aren’t the only ones who swear by it. Meekins gave it the stamp of approval. "What makes this trend so great is that it's one of those beauty hacks that is really quite simple, which means anyone can do it without spending a ton of time in front of the mirror," says Meekins.

There's another beauty hack people rave about on TikTok: Vital Proteins®! The Vital Proteins Beauty Collagen®, especially, is made with collagen, hyaluronic acid and probiotics to support healthy hair, skin and nails.**

Small face massage

No spa? No problem. This K-Beauty trend contours the cheeks and makes the face appear slimmer. Hannah Easley, Beauty Expert and Owner of Vanity Beauty Boutique, says to begin by massaging the ears from top to bottom for a minute or two, as if outlining the letter 'C'.

"Next, you move onto the face and massage the outer cheekbones using just the palm of your hands. Lastly, use the pointer, middle and ring finger to firmly massage the cheekbones in a circular motion." If it feels like you’re pulling your face or have too much friction, she recommends using a lightweight facial oil or cream.

Skin icing

Cold treatments are one of my most used techniques when body sculpting my clients,” Easley tells Lively. "Cold temperatures help shrink fat cells and tighten the skin and is a very safe way to sculpt."

While you could simply run an ice cube over their face, Easley recommends

purchasing an actual ice roller. This is ideal if you have sensitive skin, as the cold could be harmful when applied directly, she explains.

Soap brows

If you don't know what this is (it's not every day you hear the word "soap brows"), it's when you substitute brow gel with a bar of soap. Farah Zaki, a fashion blogger, is a fan because it actually works.

"I am not too fond of artificial-looking brows and prefer the natural/bushy look over everything else," she says. She also likes the fact that it’s cheap as it can be done with any clear soap.

A faux eye lift

This erases undereye circles and gives the appearance of an eye lift. To apply like a pro, Shawnda Dorantes, MSN, FNP, Master Nurse Injector and Co-Owner of Beauty Lounge Medical Spa, recommends applying concealer to both the outer corner and under the eyes.

"It's important to blend the concealer in an upward motion towards the temples," she says. "Finish the look by applying volumizing mascara and highlighter just below the lower right corners of the eyebrows."

Lipstick blush

It's a trend that gives a natural flushed look, says Victoria Stiles, Creative Director and Beauty Expert at ShikSona Beauty.

To model the look on yourself, she says to start with liberally applying a red tone lipstick shade across the cheeks and nose. Blend well using a sponge and then apply foundation or a light concealer on top before blending out again with a sponge. "The result is amazing flushed skin that looks sun-kissed!"

Heatless curls

Spend a decent amount of time on TikTok and you'll eventually find yourself on #HairTok.

It's where you'll see people wearing bathrobe belts on their head - and no, they haven't gone insane. They're simply trying the popular trend of heatless curls. Zaki likes it because you can attain gorgeous curls without the heat damage. You can use it with almost anything – "Socks, towels, strips of fabric, old T-shirts."

Glass skin

If you're not a fan of the flushed-out look, opt for dewy (also called glass skin). "This youthful look is a must-try TikTok trend that originated in Korea and is now taking the beauty world by storm," Jordan Smyth, CEO and Founder of Gleamin, tells Lively. Since the look is so natural, it only requires four products to form the base: moisturizer, primer, foundation and highlighter.
