You can always give your existing summer outfits – peach, anyone? – an autumn update by accessorizing with fall staples.

Fall 2019 Fashion Trends: Wild Prints, Dark Florals & More

Wild Prints

“This fall release your inner wild girl with a revamped animal print,” says Catherine Joubert, a wardrobe stylist. “It’s a fresh take on the traditional animal print by combining snakeskin scales, leopard markings and zebra stripes with bold colors, and it’s nothing but tame.” She suggests making wild print the focal point of your outfit by keeping the rest neutral, so it doesn’t compete with such a standout piece. If you want to give this look a whirl, Joubert recommends a couple of great options including a pair of Animal-Print Cigarette Jeans, Tiger-Print Hiker Boots, as well as this Jungle Cat Leopard-Print Pleated Dress or Leopard Print Sweater.

Dark Florals

While it may be time to pack away the bright floral dresses of summer, you don’t have to say goodbye entirely to this print. “Florals get an update this fall with darker fabrics and larger florals that are easy to wear and pair with all your fall staples,” says Kim Rodriguez, personal stylist of KR Personal Style. To get the look, she suggests a blouse like this one from Zara which features florals in deeper hues or a dark floral frock that can be dressed up or down for all kinds of occasions.

Leather Pants

If you’re looking for an alternative to denim this fall, try leather. Joubert notes that while they’re more of an investment piece, there are also plenty of faux-leather options you can find at a fraction of the price. “Regardless of which way you go, opt for a rich fall hue such as a cognac, olive or burgundy and pair them with a chunky sweater and classic Chelsea boot — or sneakers for a casual look — and a black suede pump for a night out,” she says.

Metallics

Metallic accents are trending this fall and don’t have to be worn just at night or for those occasions we deem the glitziest. “Head-to-toe metallic may not be your vibe, but a beautiful metallic blouse under a jacket, or even a belt in metallic threads will make a subtle statement,” Rodriguez tells Lively. To get the look, try a sequined mesh skirt that makes for a fun statement piece, or perhaps a metallic thread dress paired with a great pair of leather boots. We’re also loving this sequin-ruffled top Rodriguez suggests to add a dose of sparkle to your ensemble.

Modern Lady Bags

When it comes to handbags, Joubert explains that this season is all about a modern interpretation of the retro lady bag. “Think of the Hermès Birkin bag sans the exorbitant price tag and the wait list,” she says. “Modern and statement hardware is at the forefront of the design and a myriad of hues and textures can really add some punch to your wardrobe.”

Suiting Up

Finally, suits aren’t just a conservative option for the office anymore. “Women's wear gets a bit more serious with suiting this season — you will find all styles, fabrics and colors available,” says Rodriguez. “Have fun with pairing these separates with other pieces for many wardrobe options.” To get the look, she recommends a black blazer like this one which is incredibly versatile, or perhaps opt for a checkered print that works for the office or can also pair well with denim for a more laidback look when you’re off duty.
