Product Development Technician Emilie Shew’s Relaxing Morning Routine Is The Secret To Her Success

Welcome to The Vital Life where we spotlight Vital Proteins® employees. This week, our Product Development Technician, Emilie Shew gives us a look inside her remote workday.

Lively: Thanks for sharing your day with us! To kick things off, can you tell us about what you do at Vital Proteins and what you enjoy about your role?

Emilie Shew: I’m a Product Development Technician at Vital Proteins. I work mainly on claim substantiation, which means I ensure we have the scientific evidence to back up any claims we make on labels, social media posts, our website, etc., like “supports healthy hair, skin and nails.”**^ The best part of my job is collaborating with other members in research and development. I am always learning something new, everyday!

L: Walk us through your morning routine – how has it changed (or not) since staying home?

ES: I am all about relaxing in the morning. I like to get up about an hour and a half before I start my workday to make my bed, do my skincare routine and pick up around my house so I can start my day off on the right foot. After that, I will make my coffee (with 2 scoops of Vital Proteins® Collagen Peptides, of course), read my book and snuggle with my cat until the workday begins!

L: Where have you been getting inspiration for projects or tasks you might be working on throughout the day?

ES: It’s easy to stay inspired at Vital! Everyday is different. The office is such a beautiful and creative setting to work in. If I’m working from home and I need a hit of inspiration I will work on a project that is new and excites me. To-do lists are also my jam! Once I have my to-do list made for the day I do everything I can to check off all my tasks.

L: Lunchtime! What’s your plan?

ES: When I am working from home everyday is different. I love to cook but usually for lunch I will keep it simple and make a protein shake for something quick and easy. My favorite protein shake to make is:

I also love to snack on cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, and olives with some balsamic dressing! If I am in office I am going to Foxtrot for salad or Timeout Market to try a new restaurant.

L: You’re hitting your mid-afternoon slump. How do you re-energize your afternoon?

ES: My favorite way to re-energize is to go outside. Taking a quick 15 minutes to myself to go on a short walk or sit on my patio and soak up the sun will really turn my afternoon around. If I am particularly tired that day I will reach for an iced coffee or an iced black tea for a caffeine boost.

How have you been practicing #wellnessfromhome these days?

ES: I like to go on a 20 to 40 minute walk every day and catch up on any podcasts or listen to music. I also workout in the afternoons for at least 30 minutes. My favorite work out to do is cycling on my Peloton bike, Pilates, or hiking when on vacation! However, my favorite way to decompress from my day is by making dinner, watching reality TV and spending time with my friends.
