The Best Ways to Recharge, According to Yogi Jaz Porter

Jaz Porter is a yoga instructor and retreat leader. Here, she writes about how she recharges every month.

Most of us wait until our bodies respond to stress to take action and do something to help relieve it. Combat this way of thinking by having monthly mental health management practices to maintain a balanced lifestyle. Whether you like to have a specific activity to look forward to on a monthly basis, or you like to switch it up each month, here are some very relaxing activities to choose from:

Float Spa Therapy

Epsom salt water float tanks are at the top of my list! I always experience divine meditation and sleep while in the pod. You’ll feel calm, relaxed, and experience a sense of wellbeing, and an energy boost. The friend who introduced me to this activity has said that one hour of sleep in the pod is equivalent to six hours of normal sleep. Rejuvenation at its finest!

Yoga Retreat

Yoga retreats are near and dear to my heart. I have done some of the most transformative work within myself at yoga retreats. It allows you to unplug from what we know life to be and get back to the essence of what life is. A powerful yoga retreat could not only give you a reset button, it could change your life.

Massage Therapy

This one can easily be implemented. The most important thing here is to find a massage therapist who understands more than just technique. Energetic exchange is so important when receiving a massage for stress relief. Think of finding your massage therapist as dating … when you find the right one, you’ll know!

Staycation

It’s important to keep in mind that you can take a vacation right at home. Sometimes that doesn’t seem like an option because our whole lives are where we live. Give yourself permission to do nothing for a day or a weekend. If you have family in the area, let them know that you are home, but on vacation! Step away from your computer, phone, and anything else that makes demands of you. Trust me, it will all be there when you return.

Life Detox

If any of the other choices are inconvenient for any reason, a life detox is always there for you while you continue to live your life normally. A life detox is simply choosing to turn away from anything toxic, like conversations, people, social media, alcohol, unhealthy foods, reading material, etc. Making better choices that have a positive influence on you can alleviate stress that you may not be aware of. You’ll definitely feel lighter in your spirit!
